Human Variation & Race

Image
1. Heat is an environmental stress that negatively impacts the survival of humans by disturbing homeostasis. Most outdoor people can corporate with the heat while there are others who haven’t been really exposed to the sun, a lack of vitamin D. Many things can happen to you when your in the heat for some time. Heat exhaustion happens when you don’t hydrate yourself and your exposed to the sun for too long. Heat cramps are muscle spasms that result form loss of large amount of salt and water through exercise.  The worst that can happen for being exposed to the heat for too long can be skin cancer. 2. Short Term Sweating helps your body to cool off when its too hot. When sweating while exercising, it can be beneficial due to the fact that your pushing your body further. Facultative Vasodilation is something the body adapts to the heat in a facultative way. Blood makes its way to the surface or under the skin so that there will be less heat in the body to maintain ...

Piltdown Hoax

The Piltdown Hoax was a well known mystery that took place in 1912. An Amateur Archaeologist by the name of Charles Dawson was digging in a gravel pit and found a fossil human-like skull that looked ancient. This was also near Piltdown village in East Sussex, England. There was also a set of teeth and a jawbone. The scientific significance would be that it would of taught us the connections between humans and apes. This was something scientist payed so much attention to because they though they have found a new species of the life of a human/ape. The Hoax was quiet for so many years, but came out that after scientists looks at other early human fossils, for example it didn’t have the same jaw shape as the one Dawson found. As the years went by, we had advance technology to take a closer look at the ancient artifacts. Mainly everyone who was working on this mystery felt super humiliated due to the fact that this whole thing wasn't what they thought it was. Not just scientist...

Analogy And Homology

Image
1.For your homologus traits provide the following information: a. Briefly describe (NOT just identify) the two different species that possess the homologus trait.  Homologies are shared between two different species. Humans and dog are two homologous, two different species but have traits that makes them similar to each other.  b. Describe the homologus trait of each species, focusing on the differences in structure and function of the trait. Why do these homologus traits exhibit differences between the two species? Make sure your explanation is clear and complete.  If we look at the image of a human hand a dog’s paw, we can see that they share a similar bone structure in the hand. However on the dog, the thumb is smaller compared to a human thumb, which is larger in size. Making the thumb of the dog a vestigial area. We see this difference because over time human’s learned how to use the function of the thumb in everyday life. Including grabbing or gr...

Scientific Method

1. Is it possible that the student is in class tired due to having a job that requires being up all night till morning. 2. Test: A. I would be testing my hypothesis by suggesting that the student would be called on more to answer questions or have his/her opinion on the topic. B. If the student manages to stay awake by answering questions or give his/her opinion my hypothesis will be supported and he/her will make it through until the end of class. C. My hypothesis would be falsified if the student continues to fall asleep even when being called on. 3. An untestable example would be if the student accidentally drinks a sleeping potion every morning before school.
